Who Is Utica Shale Academy?

USA is a tuition-free publicly funded school where students are taught through blended instruction provided via online curriculum and on-site learning. At USA, all students will utilize a state-of-the-art digital curriculum for both their traditional course work, as well as specialty courses targeting the oil and gas industry. Students take classes designed to move at the student's own pace with certified teachers as well as attending New Castle School of Trades. At NCST, students get a head start on life by earning industry recognized credentials and college credit along the way.
What are the benefits to attending USA?
At USA, your child will receive a high quality education that prepares him or her for their future, while targeting Career Tech avenues that lead to industry certification prior to graduation. Students will graduate with job ready skills for industry and also have the opportunity to continue their education by earning additional certifications or obtaining degree in higher education. This means they will receive a great deal of personal attention from teachers, have more extensive course offerings than traditional schools, and will be job ready upon graduation.
As a student in USA, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of the upstream and downstream operations of the petroleum industry and the ability to graduate with Industry Certifications as well as college credit. Students will also have the opportunity to be part of a National data base housing the certifications earned to assist in job placement.
Who can enroll with USA?
Any student from 7th through 12th grade, who is a resident of Ohio and under the age of 21 may enroll in USA.
Is there a cost to attend USA?
USA is a publicly funded school so the tuition costs are paid by state allocated dollars. There is no cost to the parent.
Can USA benefit students who want to go to college?
Absolutely, USA offers a number of college level courses as well as having an articulation agreement with Youngstown State University. Students will have the opportunity to earn college credit while still attending high school.
How will my child's progress be monitored?
Each student is assigned an Instructional Supervisor to monitor and to ensure they are making adequate progress in their coursework. In additional, parents may view their student's progress at any time through the Internet.
Students may contact their Instructional Supervisor through phone, email or in-person during the week. Further details are available in the policy manual.
How do you monitor attendance?
The attendance policy followed is according to the Ohio State law. Students are required to be on site the majority of time while some work may be completed remotely. Please contact a school representative to discuss a plan that meets your student’s needs. Attendance is tracked through our Learning Management System by an instructional supervisor and monitored to ensure students are meeting attendance requirements.
Do you provide Special Education Services?
Yes. We have a 7-12 Special Education program with Highly Qualified Teachers and certified Intervention Specialists.
